چکیده

Modification of the pH of kaolin-serum treatment produces hemagglutination-inhibition test results comparable with the plaque neutralization test in duck embryo tissue culture; the standard treatment does not.

Comparison of methods for removal of nonspecific inhibitors of arbovirus hemagglutination.

Human sera were treated with kaolin, acetone, and dextran sulfate to determine the best method for removing nonspecific hemagglutination inhibitors. Results indicated that on surveys for group A, group B, and some group C arbovirus HI antibodies, dextran sulfate treatment of sera could be used effectively. This method, however, has limited usefulness for detecting HI antibody for a number of ar...

Effect of a modified kaolin treatment on serum immunoglobulins.

After kaolin treatment of fetal rabbit serum, 7S antibody titers were reduced more than 19S titers. This reduction was less when the kaolin treatment was performed at pH 9.0 than when it was performed at pH 7.3. A modification of the kaolin treatment of sera for use in the hemagglutination-inhibiting antibody titration, in which the hemagglutination reaction is performed at a neutral pH, is rec...

Nonspecific factors in monkey tissues and serum causing inhibition of plaque formation and hemagglutination by dengue viruses.

Normal monkey serum and the supernatant fluid from different triturated monkey tissues have been studied for the presence of nonspecific arbovirus hemagglutination and plaque forming inhibitors of dengue viruses types 1, 2, 3, and 4. Hemagglutination inhibition (HI) activity was present in most tissue specimens and demonstrated a significant gradient of effectiveness starting with, respectively...

Preparation of an Inactivated Egg Drop Syndrome Antigen for Using in Hemagglutination Inhibition Test.

To prepare hemagglutination inhibition (HI) antigen the egg drop syndrome virus (EDSV) was propagated in 10-day-old embryonated duck eggs. The virus antigen was inactivated with two methods including heating (65°C) and adding 0.5% formaldehyde by considering low destroying effect on hemagglutination (HA) and HI titers. The EDSV HI titers of 310 sera and 100 yolks obtained from 23 chicken farms ...

Hemagglutination inhibition with arboviruses: relationship between titers and source of erythrocytes.

Antigens for Grand Arbaud, Hazara, and California arboviruses were able to agglutinate goose and either dog, hamster and guinea pig, or hamster red blood cells (RBC) to the same titer at the same pH; in hemagglutination-inhibition (HI) tests, titers for homologous and related sera were the same with these different types of RBC or occasionally one dilution higher with the mammalian cells. Antig...
